Behind the Lens:
Crafting the Visual Story of ‘Cross Stitch in the Forest’

Max Pigeon / Author – ‘Cross Stitch In The Forest’
Embarking on a photographic journey for the book Cross Stitch in the Forest was a thrilling endeavor—it’s not every day you’re asked to photograph an entire book. This vibrant collaboration with Pigeon Coop Designs, commissioned by Page Street Publishing, brought with it a series of challenges and creative delights I dove straight into, without hesitation. We were able to capture the essence of nature and the vibrancy of Max’s designs across a variety of settings, from lush outdoor environments to a funky boho-inspired shop, each perfectly echoing the natural joy and modern vibe of Max’s designs.
One of the biggest challenges was maintaining color consistency across different lighting scenarios. We employed advanced techniques to ensure that the colors of the threads remained vibrant and true, whether under soft studio lights or the natural daylight. Each photo went beyond a simple visual; it became a narrative chapter that showcases how Max’s designs bring a fresh and accessible perspective to a somewhat traditional craft, we think needs to be reserved for our grannies.
The project was a beautiful blend of creativity and technical precision, resulting in a visually stunning narrative for Cross Stitch in the Forest. Everyone involved was genuinely pleased with the finished product, a testament to the hard work and passion that went into all the elements of creating a book.
